RESUMO

Endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS) is an uncommon uterine mesenchymal neoplasm. The primary extra-uterine location of ESS is a very rare occurrence. We present a case of a 39-year-old woman presented with severe abdominal pain, MRI showed bilateral ovarian tumors with heterogeneous intensity on T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) and T1-weighted imaging (T1WI), with restricted diffusion, including hyperintense areas on T1WI, not erased on T1-weighted fat-suppressed imaging, hypointense on T2WI, and not enhanced after contrast. This mass extended to the Douglas and invaded the uterine and the rectum serosa suggesting an underlying endometriosis. No abnormalities were suspected in the endometrium. The exploration revealed a friable mass arising from ovaries associated with nodules in the small intestine and sigmoid. The patient underwent bilateral adnexectomy and the anatomopathological study revealed a low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma. This is one of the few reports covering the radiological features of low-grade extra-uterine ESS in the ovary which is probably secondary to degeneration of endometriosis with no evidence of primary uterine ESS.

RESUMO

Focusing on queer relationality, broadly conceptualized as minoritarian subjects' modes of relating, engaging, and connecting with others in a symbolic and material landscape of erasure and cultural unintelligibility, this special issue highlights their communication practices and relational experiences. In so doing, it attempts to mitigate epistemic injustice, a wrong perpetrated against minoritarian subjects in their capacity as knower and legitimate source of their own experiences, by making their practices and experiences known and legible in mainstream heteronormative culture. The purpose of our article is to offer a preliminary mapping of queer relationalities, ranging from communication practices to modes of sociality and relational formations that exist at the edges of mainstream cultural unintelligibility. To do so, we first explore the vast domain of queer relationality. Next, we identify and examine multiple ways of thinking, doing, and imagining queer relationality. We conclude with a discussion of theoretical, methodological, and political implications of current work on queer relationality assembled in this issue and explore future directions for research.

RESUMO

This article explores the reach of queer relationality beyond materiality and toward virtual realities. By expounding upon how desire, relationality, and race can be understood within technocultures, particularly within immersive interactive and virtual reality gaming, I situate the potentiality of queer worldmaking outside of the confines of social pressures and expectations in the material world. Through an analysis of Black Mirror's episode, "Striking Vipers," I propose three concepts for analyzing queer relationality within technocultures, technodesiring, technorelating, and technoBlackness. The article concludes with possibilities for queer relationality and queer worldmaking that extend beyond the realm of white heteropatriarchal socialities.

RESUMO

The septin collar of budding yeast is an ordered array of septin filaments that serves a scaffolding function for the cytokinetic machinery at the bud neck and compartmentalizes the membrane between mother and daughter cell. How septin architecture is aided by septin-binding proteins is largely unknown. Syp1 is an endocytic protein that was implicated in the timely recruitment of septins to the newly forming collar through an unknown mechanism. Using advanced microscopy and in vitro reconstitution assays, we show that Syp1 is able to align laterally and tightly pack septin filaments, thereby forming flat bundles or sheets. This property is shared by the Syp1 mammalian counterpart FCHo2, thus emphasizing conserved protein functions. Interestingly, the septin-bundling activity of Syp1 resides mainly in its intrinsically disordered region. Our data uncover the mechanism through which Syp1 promotes septin collar assembly and offer another example of functional diversity of unstructured protein domains.

RESUMO

Circular economy is a global trend as a promising strategy for the sustainable use of natural resources. In this context, waste-to-energy presents an effective solution to respond to the ever-increasing waste generation and energy demand duality. However, waste diversity makes their management a serious challenge. Among their categories, biomass waste valorization is an attractive solution energy regarding its low cost and raw materials availability. Nevertheless, the knowledge of biomass waste characteristics, such as composition and energy content, is a necessity. In this research, new models are developed to estimate biomass wastes higher heating value (HHV) based on the ultimate analysis using linear regression and artificial neural network (ANN). The quality-measure of the two models for new dataset was evaluated with statistical metrics such as coefficient of correlation (R), root mean squared error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). The methods developed in this work provided attractive accuracies comparing to other literature models. Additionally, it is found that the ANN, as machine learning method, is the best model for biomass HHV prediction (R = 0.75377, RMSE = 1.17527, MAE = 0.93315 and MAPE = 5.73%). Therefore, obtained results can be widely employed to design and optimize the reactors of combustion. In fact, the developed ANN software is a simple and accurate tool for HHV estimation based on ultimate analysis. Indeed, ANN is one of the most applicable and widely used software in the field of waste-to-energy.

RESUMO

North Africa is a key area for understanding hominin population movements and the expansion of our species. It is home to the earliest currently known Homo sapiens (Jebel Irhoud) and several late Middle Stone Age (MSA) fossils, notably Kébibat, Contrebandiers 1, Dar-es-Soltane II H5 and El Harhoura. Mostly referred to as "Aterian" they fill a gap in the North African fossil record between Jebel Irhoud and Iberomaurusians. We explore morphological continuity in this region by quantifying mandibular shape using 3D (semi)landmark geometric morphometric methods in a comparative framework of late Early and Middle Pleistocene hominins (n = 15), Neanderthals (n = 27) and H. sapiens (n = 145). We discovered a set of mixed features among late MSA fossils that is in line with an accretion of modern traits through time and an ongoing masticatory gracilization process. In Northern Africa, Aterians display similarities to Iberomaurusians and recent humans in the area as well as to the Tighenif and Thomas Quarry hominins, suggesting a greater time depth for regional continuity than previously assumed. The evidence we lay out for a long-term succession of hominins and humans emphasizes North Africa's role as source area of the earliest H. sapiens.

RESUMO

Clathrin-mediated endocytosis (CME) is a central trafficking pathway in eukaryotic cells regulated by phosphoinositides. The plasma membrane phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate (PI(4,5)P2) plays an instrumental role in driving CME initiation. The F-BAR domain-only protein 1 and 2 complex (FCHo1/2) is among the early proteins that reach the plasma membrane, but the exact mechanisms triggering its recruitment remain elusive. Here, we show the molecular dynamics of FCHo2 self-assembly on membranes by combining minimal reconstituted in vitro and cellular systems. Our results indicate that PI(4,5)P2 domains assist FCHo2 docking at specific membrane regions, where it self-assembles into ring-like-shaped protein patches. We show that the binding of FCHo2 on cellular membranes promotes PI(4,5)P2 clustering at the boundary of cargo receptors and that this accumulation enhances clathrin assembly. Thus, our results provide a mechanistic framework that could explain the recruitment of early PI(4,5)P2-interacting proteins at endocytic sites.

RESUMO

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IMD) is a chronic benign inflammatory disease of the breast which can mimic breast cancer. It is more common in young women of childbearing age and poses a challenge in diagnosis of inflammatory breast tumor. We report the case of a 26-year-old female patient who presented with inflammatory breast. Clinical examination showed apyretic patient with edematized and painless irregular smooth mass in the left breast measuring 4 cm surmounted by crusts and multiples fistulizing scars discharging pus by applying pressure, with mobile ipsilateral axillary adenopathy. The remainder of the physical examination showed inflammatory erythematous patches on both legs. A mammogram plus breast ultrasound was performed followed by biopsy that objectified fibrous mastopathy. Lumpectomy was performed due to the persistence of symptoms. Anatomopathological examination objectified granulomatous mastitis. Etiological research didn't identify a clear cause. Corticotherapy associated with antibiotic therapy was started with complete regression of symptoms after two months.

RESUMO

Currently, the apparition of new SARS-CoV, known as SARS-CoV-2, affected more than 34 million people and causing high death rates worldwide. Recently, several studies reported SARS-CoV-2 ribonucleic acid (RNA) in hospital wastewater. SARS-CoV-2 can be transmitted between humans via respiratory droplets, close contact and fomites. Fecal-oral transmission is considered also as a potential route of transmission since several scientists confirmed the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in feces of infected patients, therefore its transmission via feces in aquatic environment, particularly hospital wastewater. Hospitals are one of the important classes of polluting sectors around the world. It was identified that hospital wastewater contains hazardous elements and a wide variety of microbial pathogens and viruses. Therefore, this may potentially pose a significant risk of public health and environment infection. This study reported an introduction about the Physical-chemical and microbiological characterization of hospital wastewater, which can be a route to identify potential technology to reduce the impact of hospital contaminants before evacuation. The presence of SARS-CoV-2 in aqueous environment was reviewed. The knowledge of the detection and survival of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater and hospital wastewater were described to understand the different routes of SARS-CoV-2 transmission, which is also useful to avoid the outbreak of CoV-19. In addition, disinfection technologies used commonly for deactivation of SARS-CoV-2 were highlighted. It was revealed that, chlorine-containing disinfectants are the most commonly used disinfectants in this field of research. Meanwhile, other efficient technologies must be developed and improved to avoid another wave of the pandemic of COVID-19 infections.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: During pregnancy, the discovery of adnexal masses remains frequent. Such masses are mostly benign. Ovarian endometrioma is a rare etiology. The diagnosis may be difficult in some situations, such as decidualization. It may be asymptomatic or result in complications for which magnetic resonance imaging is needed. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe an unusual case of decidualization of an ovarian endometrioma complicated by a sigmoid fistula during a 7-week, 1-day pregnancy in a Arabic patient aged 38 years who developed acute pelvic pain with fever. She had a medical history of unexplored secondary dysmenorrhea. The diagnosis was suspected on the basis of magnetic resonance imaging findings. The management was based on surgery, during which exploration revealed a mass at the expense of the left ovary being very adherent and fistulized to the sigmoid. We performed adnexectomy followed by digestive ostomy. The result of pathological study with immunohistochemistry led to a diagnosis of decidualization of an ovarian endometrioma altered by infection. CONCLUSION: Decidualization of an ovarian endometrioma can lead sometimes to unexpected complications. The decision to provide surgery must be made with caution without delaying treatment in the event of a deep suspicion of malignancy and/or complication. The particular and exceptional complication discovered in our patient is the fistulization to the sigmoid.

RESUMO

With the increased use and quality of ultrasound in pregnancy, adnexal masses are being encountered with greater frequency. Most of the time such masses are asymptomatic. It can be discovered in an emergency. Surgical intervention may cause risks to the mother and her fetus, while observation without intervention may also lead to unfavorable complications, such as ovarian torsion or the development of a tumor. Therefore, the management requires a balance between the maternal and fetal risks. We report two cases of torsion of adnexal masses during pregnancy, and we provide a brief literature review on the management and prognosis of this condition in pregnancy.

RESUMO

A 42-year-old previously healthy woman presented with a 2-month history of recurrent fever and painful swelling on the left thigh. She was given a presumptive diagnosis of cellulitis and an antimicrobial. Because the response was not significant and fever remained moderate to high grade, with the appearance of gradually increasing periorbital edema (Figure 1), the diagnosis was reconsidered, and she was referred to a tertiary referral center for further study.

RESUMO

Multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCDK) is the most common Congenital Abnormalities of Kidney and Urinary Tract (CAKUT) in clinical practice. Its etiology and pathogenesis are still controversial and obstruction is a generally accepted causative assumption. Obstetric ultrasound is the gold standard for prenatal diagnosis and for the detection of other associated malformations. Prenatal management is based on ultrasound monitoring of pregnancy, of the disease, of the occurrence of other anomalies and of the amount of amniotic fluid. This study aims to report our experience in the Department of Gynecology-Obstetrics 2 at the University Hospital Hassan II-Fez in order to clarify the epidemiology of MCDK, highlight the role of obstetric ultrasound in positive and etiological diagnosis while describing the various sonographic appearances. It is essential to schedule for screening tests during pregnancy in order to assess the evolution of the disease diagnosed in the prenatal period, to implement a strategy in postpartum care and to establish a prognosis.
